The Voluntary Service Specialist (VSS) is the liaison between the hospital, Community Partners and Veteran Service Organizations. The VSS is responsible for planning, direction, coordination, operation and internal evaluation of the volunteer program, with direction from the Chief, Voluntary Service.
What You'll Do
- →Incumbent will carry out the duties of a Voluntary Services Specialist, the duties of which are to provide support in the overall integration of community-based volunteer participation in appropriate areas of medical care and administrative functions within the facility.
- →The duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: Interviewing, scheduling, placement and evaluation of new volunteers.
- →Consulting with clinical and administrative staff to develop appropriate volunteer assignments, determine schedules; and conduct general orientation programs for new volunteers.
- →Provide daily supervision of volunteers and assure adequate numbers of volunteers and proper training is provided addressing the operation needs of the facility.
- →Resolves issues as they arise and consults with the Voluntary Service Manager if policies or procedures require revision.
- →Responsible for assuring that favorable interpersonal relations with management, volunteers, community service organizations, staff, and all customers are maintained.
- →Serve on Committees and represent the volunteer program at meetings, and designated functions, or in the community.
- →Plans and conducts routine programs, tours of the facility for special visitors, dignitaries, and community groups.
- →Make presentations to a wide variety of groups within the facility and at locations within the community.
- →Reviews and analyzes monthly reports and informs the Manager of program trends, processing issues, and makes recommendations for process improvements.
- →Performs a full range of program and administrative duties in support of the service, including a variety of duties with assigned or self- initiated priorities.
- →Works with the Manager and staff in the development of new areas for volunteer support, as well as assists in developing recruitment materials, orientation guides, training guides, handbooks, correspondence, etc.
- →Responsible for assisting in the administering of the Gifts and Donations Program and accepts / records donations to the facility.
- →Develops and implements procedures and controls for accepting donations and gifts within the health care system, and provides training to ensure proper compliance.
