This position manages and operates a complex fleet of motor vehicles tor the facilities Management Service (FMS) at VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS) under the supervision of the Grounds and Transportation Supervisor, Facilities Management. The incumbent is required to work under minimal supervision and resolve problems associated with the work of the office.
What You'll Do
- →Duties encompass, but are not limited to: Manages and operates a complex fleet of motor vehicles ranging from subcompact sedans and station wagons to heavy trucks, busses, para-transit vehicles, and special purpose vehicles.
- →Develop detailed programs for the service, storage and maintenance of the equipment and its usage.
- →Incumbent is responsible for ensuring that proper maintenance records are kept on all vehicles and pieces of equipment assigned.
- →Incumbent is responsible for the submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual cost and estimated cost reports on vehicles.
- →Incumbent also directs motor vehicle services, eliminates misuse and abuse by vehicle operators and assures maximum utilization and safety by promoting the cooperation of supervisors, operators and documentation of negligence, misuse, or abuse of vehicles.
- →Inspects commercial sources for maintenance of vehicles operating locally and in areas remote from the facility. ls responsible for major and nonstandard vehicle modifications and all vehicle accident repairs and/or recommendations for uneconomical repair determinations.
- →Plans and coordinate the vehicle rotation program by reviewing utilization patterns, then scheduling and rotating vehicle usage to achieve maximum efficiency and economy.
- →Through effective rotation, maintains a balanced fleet to uniformly achieve maximum use and cost efficiency.
- →Prepare forecast of individual usage for future years and prepares listing of vehicles which are projected to meet replacement criteria and estimated year of replacement and cost.
- →Initiates vehicle procurement action on replacement and additional vehicles based on replacement standards and consultation with using service.
- →Prepares specifications and requirements for nonstandard vehicles and equipment or determines if requirement can be filled by modifications of existing vehicles.
- →Receives new vehicles and assigns to customer services.
- →Advises on the goals of cost reduction, energy reduction and productivity improvement.
- →Actively participates in agency reduction and productivity improvement.
