The position is located under the Surgical Care Service Line at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center (SLCVAMC), within the Salt Lake City Health Care System (SLCHCS), and serves as the Administrative Officer (AO). The incumbent functions as the principal administrative advisor to the Chief, Surgical Care, and is responsible for the planning, direction, coordination, and evaluation of a comprehensive administrative program supporting a large, complex clinical service.
What You'll Do
- →Duties may include, but are not limited to: Serves as the principal administrative advisor to the Chief, Surgical Care Service, with responsibility for the overall planning, direction, coordination, and evaluation of administrative programs supporting a large and complex clinical service.
- →Provide authoritative guidance to management officials on a wide range of administrative matters, including human resources management, financial management, contracting and procurement, logistics, and program operations.
- →Integrates and aligns administrative functions to support clinical program objectives, ensuring effective utilization of personnel, space, equipment, and financial resources.
- →Represents the Service in meetings, committees, and interactions with internal and external stakeholders and serves as a key member of the Service leadership team, influencing decisions that impact overall program direction, performance, and resource management.
- →Works closely with the Chiefs of Surgery, Anesthesiology, Sterile Processing, Nursing, Logistics, Primary Care, Specialty Clinics, Medicine, and Rehab to exchange information related to organizational issues, programs, and functions to identify and make recommendations for process improvements.
- →Directs and manages the full range of budgetary and financial operations for the Surgical Care Service, ensuring effective stewardship of financial resources in support of clinical and administrative programs.
- →Monitors expenditures and performs ongoing financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and potential risks, ensuring alignment with approved funding levels and regulatory requirements.
- →Advises leadership on resource allocation strategies, cost management, and financial planning to support efficient and effective operations.
- →Integrating financial data with operational and clinical program requirements to support informed decision-making and long-range planning.
- →Provides administrative and technical supervision over assigned staff, including Program Analysts and Program Specialists, ensuring effective execution of administrative programs supporting the Surgical Care Service.
- →Plans, organizes, and directs the work of subordinate employees by establishing priorities, assigning work, and setting schedules to meet program requirements and organizational goals.
- →Addresses employee concerns and resolves work-related issues, including handling complaints and initiating or recommending corrective or disciplinary actions as appropriate.
- →Integrates the work of subordinate staff into the overall administrative operations of the Surgical Care Service, ensuring alignment with program objectives and efficient support to clinical operations.
- →Oversees and coordinates contracting and procurement activities supporting the Surgical Care Service, ensuring timely acquisition of supplies, equipment, and services necessary to support clinical operations.
