The Policy Assistant Director is the lead supervisor, advisor, & subject matter expert in ensuring customer service for all facets of the Compensation Program regarding administrative/adjudication aspects of claims processing, recommending VA's policy interpretation for regulation, legislative and policy content to the Deputy Executive Director and Executive Director, and formulating VA policy statements to support efficient delivery of compensation benefits to Veterans and their dependents.
What You'll Do
- →Specific duties include: The incumbent reports directly to the Deputy Director for Policy and Procedures, Compensation Service.
- →Supervision is primarily coordinating in nature and ensuring uniform application of performance.
- →The incumbent supervises personnel ranging in grade from GS-8 to GS-14, as well as Medical Officers GS-15 in the VA Schedule for Rating Disabilities Program Office.
- →It is usually limited to consultation or general instruction as to objectives.
- →Administrative staff and supervisory functions are subject to minimal review.
- →The incumbent plans and delegates work, establishes priorities, assigns work based on the nature and difficulty of the projects.
- →Makes decisions on the training needs and requests of subordinates.
- →The incumbent is delegated managerial authority to plan for long range staffing needs, determine operational goals and objectives that warrant additional emphasis and assure the implementation of or approved policy initiatives that serve to enhance program operations.
- →The incumbent has a comprehensive knowledge of adjudication policies and procedures and must be a technical expert in the adjudication of claims.
- →He/she maintains a thorough understanding of statistical techniques and management principals.
- →The incumbent participates in frequent discussions with senior management and officials, both internal and external to government, and must establish and maintain relations that will ensure cooperation and harmony at all levels.
- →The incumbent represents the Director, Compensation Service at meetings and conferences with authority to speak for and commit the Director to courses of action that involve field operations.
- →Provides status reports on the progress of the policy and regulation related initiatives and established goals and tracks the progress of that effort toward meeting established milestones.
- →He/she oversees the overall effort of various aspects of policy operations and is essentially responsible for the final output.
