This position is located in the Health Information Management Section (HIMS) at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System (CVHCS). The Supervisory MRT (Release of Information) manages the Records Processing Unit of HIMS. The incumbent also supervises the scanning and incomplete records processing operations, including contract management.
What You'll Do
- →The major duties of a Supervisory Medical Records Technician (ROI) include, but are not limited to, the following: Serves as supervisor and technical expert for the Records Processing Unit.
- →Provides guidance and suggestions to the Chief, HIMS regarding staffing needs and shortages within the Records Processing Unit section.
- →Staff under their supervision provide direct customer service to Veterans and various third parties by providing copies of protected health information when requests meet Privacy Act and HIPAA requirements.
- →Provides guidance and technical direction necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit or team.
- →Staff are located at the Richmond VA Medical Center and Fredericksburg Health Care Center.
- →Provides effective audits and monitors for all areas of responsibility, assuring that accurate and timely data is processed by all employees.
- →Reviews work accomplished by staff on day and evening shifts and assesses quality, quantity, accuracy and timeliness of work produced by each employee.
- →Ascertains problems encountered and takes corrective action.
- →Develops performance standards and conducts performance evaluations.
- →Develops and conducts competency assessments.
- →Responsible for carrying out established personnel functions and practices.
- →Keeps employees informed about important aspects of personnel management programs.
- →Interviews new employees, recommends selection, and carries out training and development of assignments, awards or disciplinary action.
- →Approves leave and establishes work schedules.
Requirements
