About the Role

Position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

What You'll Do

  • Serves as Program Coordinator for the Mental Health Clinic (MHC) at the Battle Creek VAMC and Lansing CBOC.
  • Provides broad administrative and clinical leadership for multidisciplinary outpatient mental health programs.
  • Exercises wide independent judgment in managing complex clinic operations, supervising staff, coordinating programming, ensuring adherence to standards, and supporting recovery-oriented services for Veterans.
  • Oversees approximately 27 FTEE including Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, Nursing staff, and Peer Support Specialists.
  • Holds line and staff authority over resources, staffing, and performance.
  • Ensures efficient operation of MHC programs; oversees performance improvement, quality monitoring, and data collection.
  • Ensures compliance with accreditation standards, the Mental Health Uniform Services Package, and all Medical Center, VISN, and VACO requirements.
  • Coordinates integration of services with Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, Primary Care (PACT), CBOCs, and other mental health leaders.
  • Ensures immediate availability for expert mental health consultation across primary and specialty care.
  • Ensures early identification and intervention for psychological and psychiatric conditions, and oversees delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered services including psychotherapy, psychoeducation, psychiatric consultation, and case management.
  • Leads implementation and functioning of BHIP, MHTC 2.0, and the FLOW model, ensuring effective huddles, team coordination, and timely access to care.
  • Manages intake and discharge processes to optimize access and transitions of care.
  • Responsible for all supervisory functions, including assignment of work, performance evaluations, discipline, conflict resolution, scheduling, coverage planning, hiring actions, preparing functional statements, and selecting candidates.
  • Provides leadership in developing training experiences for social work interns, medical students, residents, and other trainees.
