About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

What You'll Do

  • The Social Worker is assigned to the Social Work Service and is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing social work activities in assigned segments of the Mental Health/Behavioral Science Section of the service.
  • Duties may include, but are not limited to: Establishing and maintaining effective therapeutic relationships with Veterans and/or their families in the Mental Health Clinic.
  • Independently working with Veterans and their families who are experiencing a wide range of complicated medical, psychiatric, emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial problems.
  • Completing thorough psychosocial assessments to determine the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and/or their families.
  • Actively participating as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and through collaboration with Veterans and family in the development and implementation of a resident centered treatment plan.
  • Facilitating discharge planning through collaboration with Veterans and their families as well as interdisciplinary treatment team members to ensure that appropriate discharge plans are executed in a timely manner.
  • Independently implementing treatment modalities, providing counseling and/or supportive groups for Veterans and families, and evaluating/measuring outcomes to interventions.
  • Providing consultation and education to Veterans and their families regarding community resources, VA benefits and specialty programs, and advance directives.
  • Consulting with other treatment team and staff members regarding psychosocial needs of Veterans and/or their families and the impact of the identified psychosocial problems on the Veteran's health care planning, compliance with treatment, and discharge planning.
  • Supporting the mission, policies, and procedures of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), the appropriate Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN), and the facility.
  • Serving on committees, work groups, and task forces at the facility as deemed appropriate by the supervisor and Chief of Social Work Service.
