Social Worker (General Mental Health)

About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
What You'll Do
- →This Social Worker position is in Mental Health services at the VA Boston Health Care System, located at the VA Lowell Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).
- →The Mental Health (MH) Social Worker serves in the outpatient General Mental Health Clinic (GMHC).
- →The Social Worker, (SW) is responsible for the provision of direct clinical care, including intake/diagnostic assessment, triage and telephone screening, risk/safety evaluation, crisis management, evidence-based individual and group psychotherapy, couples therapy as appropriate, and case management.
- →The SW collaborates within an interdisciplinary team on treatment planning and care coordination for patients.
- →The patient population is varied and is comprised of complex outpatients with a range of MH disorders, including mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, substance-use disorders, personality disorders, and others.
- →The SW provides clinical services in the Urgent Care Clinic for one or two half-day shifts weekly, in addition to occasional Urgent Care Clinic coverage for other providers.
- →The SW additionally provides consultation and guidance to colleagues and teaches or provides orientation to less experienced social workers/clinical staff members.
- →The SW may assist with referral management tasks for the clinic, including receiving and triaging referrals and assigning cases to providers for completion of evaluations.
- →The SW may assist with program development and program evaluation.
