About the Role

The Senior Social Worker is assigned administrative responsibility for clinical program development and is accountable for clinical program effectiveness and modification of service patterns. They are also assigned in settings where they have no access to social work supervision, such as CBOCs or satellite outpatient clinics. They may be assigned to work with special patient populations with highly-complex health or mental health problems requiring expert level psychosocial interventions.

What You'll Do

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Senior Social Workers are licensed or certified to independently practice social work at an advanced level.
  • Senior Social Workers typically practice in a major specialty treatment program area or program areas of equivalent scope and complexity.
  • The Senior Social Worker is assigned administrative responsibility for clinical program development and is accountable for clinical program effectiveness and modification of service patterns.Duties of the Senior Social Worker include but are not limited to: Ability to independently implement treatment modalities, and provide counseling or psychotherapy for individuals, families and groups.
  • Provides trauma focused therapy to Veterans.
  • Functions as a key member of the multidisciplinary PTSD team and ensure continuity of care for Veterans receiving treatment for trauma utilizing evidence based treatment modalities, including but not limited to Cognitive Processing Therapy, EMDR and/or Prolonged exposure.
  • Administers and interprets trauma assessment measures, and provide therapy designed to improve quality of life by addressing Veterans' history of trauma.
  • Independently conducts psychosocial assessments.
  • Independently diagnoses Veterans according to the latest version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or other recognized diagnostic manuals of mental disorders.
  • Develops treatment plans in collaboration with the Veteran and/or family and with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Offers psychosocial intervention and utilizes professional judgment in determining the method and techniques to be used.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert and liaison with community agencies.
  • Driving will be for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to: Transportation of Veterans.
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (Subject to change based on the needs of the service) Compressed/Flexible: Not Authorized Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized EDRP Authorized: Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
  • When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must have a current, valid, unrestricted state driver's license.
  • Must provide clean driving record report from the DMV during the pre-employment process.
  • Must be able to independently operate Government Vehicle.
