This Security Officer (Unit Chief) position is located within the Security Management and Integrity Branch (SMIB), Office of Administrative Services (OAS). The primary purpose of the position is to manage the agency security and emergency operations programs and initiatives involving security, physical security, protection of classified information, and Continuity of Operations. This announcement will close on 06/04/2026 or once 100 applications are received, whichever occurs first.
What You'll Do
- →As a Security Officer (Unit Chief), you will perform the following duties: Manage U.S.
- →National Science Foundation (NSF) physical security and emergency operations programs.
- →Lead the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and plans governing NSF security and emergency programs, assess program security policies, and identify and implement improvements.
- →Serve as the NSF authority regarding emergency planning, training, preparedness, response, and recovery programs.
- →Review and evaluate local and national intelligence reports to ensure NSF's security plan activities are consistent with the nature of threats and current threat levels.
- →Serve as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) and prepare major contractor requirements.
- →Serve as NSF representative to establish, coordinate, and integrate physical security and emergency response programs and activities with external organizations.
- →Perform other duties as assigned.
- →The selected candidate may be required to perform limited supervisory duties of a few staff members.
Requirements
- ✓You must be a U.S. citizen.
- ✓Selectee will be required to have a background investigation prior to onboarding.
- ✓Selectee may be required to serve a 2-year trial/1-year probationary period.
- ✓Additional Requirements: Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade/equivalent.
