About the Role

Exciting Opportunity! The position is located in the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Salem VA Medical Center (VAMC), in the Social Work Service Line. This position provides first line technical and administrative support to the Housing, Urban Development, Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program, SUD/Contract housing and Healthcare for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Program.

What You'll Do

  • The Program Support Assistant is to perform administrative, analytical, planning, and evaluation work in support of the Social Work Service Line and Master of Social Work (MSW) training program.
  • This position assists the Social Work Service Line Chief and the Administrative Officer in providing administrative support for Social Work Service and is responsible for providing administrative and technical program support to the Social Work Service MSW field placements.
  • Duties listed below but not limited to: Performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality care, outstanding customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving Veterans, their families, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Responsible for providing exceptional personal contacts with Veterans and their families, community partners, referral sources, Public Housing Authorities (PHAs), the general community and other VA program staff, either in person or by telephone.
  • Actively supports the team concept and functions as a team player, working collaboratively across the different services lines and five Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) to accomplish the mission of the facility and the Social Work Service Line.
  • Contributes to team initiatives and continuously strives to improve the effectiveness of the team.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:45am - 4:30pm Compressed/Flexible: May be authorized based on supervisory discretion.
  • Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
  • Occasionally, the incumbent may be required to assist in moving portable tables, chairs, or audio-visual equipment for use by the Service.

  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP) As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
