About the Role
The Program Manager serves as the Division Director for the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration Office (AUS-001) in the Research, Engineering & Analysis Division (AUS-300). The Division Manager has overall authority for administrative and technical direction of the assigned employees consisting of various professionals, engineers, and other staff specialist.
What You'll Do
- →The Division Director leads a large, complex, multi-tiered organization through subordinate managers and is responsible for integrating the efforts of multiple organizational units to achieve the FAA¿s strategic goals.
- →This position requires participation in agency-wide strategic planning and includes delegated authority to make high-level decisions on program direction, policy development, and budget execution.
- →The manager will have substantial influence on national aviation policy and will regularly coordinate with senior-level stakeholders.
- →The role requires active participation in the development and management of sensitive, pre-decisional information related to aviation operations and the integration of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) into the National Airspace System (NAS).
- →Coordination is required between the FAA and partner agencies when deploying UAS detection and mitigation systems to prevent adverse impacts on the National Airspace System (NAS), therefore, the duties require access to classified information at the SCI access level.
- →The manager will have a central role in planning, coordinating, and overseeing the FAA¿s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) program, which directly impacts the day-to-day integration of UAS into the National Airspace System (NAS).
- →The scope of the UAS program involves collaboration across FAA Lines of Business (LOBs) and with external stakeholders to address regulatory, institutional, and operational challenges related to UAS implementation.
- →The Division Director also supports Congressional engagement and FAA rulemaking efforts as they relate to UAS policy and operations.
- →Serves as the designated FAA point of contact for UAS research and development initiatives.
- →Monitors evolving technologies and ensuring the timely development and implementation of supporting policies, standards, and procedures for safe and effective UAS integration.
- →Leads the development of long-range organizational plans, establishes field implementation standards, and sets associated program goals and performance metrics.
- →Key responsibilities include: Directing the work of subordinate managers and staff across multiple organizational units and programs.
- →Managerial duties include strategic planning; communicating the organization's vision and objectives; setting priorities; assigning tasks and responsibilities; monitoring and evaluating performance of organizational units, managers, and employees; coaching and developing staff and organizational capabilities; approving leave; and taking or approving corrective/disciplinary actions as appropriate.
- →Defines, acquires, and allocates budget, staff, and other resources to accomplish objectives for multiple organizational units/projects/programs and across multiple functions and/or disciplines.
