What You'll Do
- →The Physician Assistant, General Surgery, will be assigned to the Surgery Section at the James A.
- →Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, FL.
- →The Surgical Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic mid-level Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP).
- →Our ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program.
- →Incumbent provides comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of Surgery.
- →The PA will function under the directives and within the established guidelines of the Veteran Administration's (V A's) Utilization of Physician Assistants.
- →The PA will work and learn alongside surgeons who performs the full spectrum of surgical care.
- →The week will be divided between clinic, operating room and administrative time in conjunction with the other Surgery Advanced Practice Providers.
- →PA will also cross cover other Advanced Practice Providers as needed and provide coverage for other surgeons.
- →Will attend necessary training and certification courses if needed, not at the expense of the PA. - Follow patients post operatively, including rounds, orders, discharge summaries and prescribing/adjusting medications. - Attend surgical meetings including Morbidity & Mortality conference.

- →The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
