About the Role

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Atlanta Field Office, Fines, Penalties, and Forfeiture Division, located in Savannah, GA and Charlotte, NC. Additional selections may be made to include other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.

What You'll Do

  • Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise to provide legal support of those executing the law enforcement duties at the port level.
  • Apply for this exciting opportunity to strengthen homeland security by performing paralegal activities such as reviewing and finalizing claims, preparing cases, and coordinating the work of a paralegal team.
  • This position starts at a salary of $50,460.00 (GS-07, Step 1) to $80,243.00 (GS-09, Step 10) with promotion potential to $116362 (GS-12 Step 10).
  • In this Paralegal Specialist position, you will become you will become a key member of a team of homeland security professionals providing key legal support for the law enforcement duties at the port level.
  • Typical work assignments include: Reviewing and processing cases within the FPF Officer's authority through to solution.
  • Developing and evaluating all evidence, facts, and circumstances relating to cases and makes determinations and recommendations as appropriate within the requirements of the mitigation guidelines, laws, and regulations.
  • Advising the supervisor/ FPF Officer on problems and solutions involving the relationship of Fines, Penalties, and Forfeitures work to broader operations.
  • Initiating and adjudicating civil liabilities arising from seizures, penalties, fines, and claims for liquidated damages initiated under the authority of Title 19 of the United States Code (as well as other laws and regulations enforced by the Department of Homeland Security).

Requirements
