The Hampton VA Medical Center is a 1-C, teaching facility serving Eastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina. The main campus is located in Hampton, Virginia with 4 community-based outpatient clinics in Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
What You'll Do
- →The Occupational Therapist is assigned to Home Based Primary Care.
- →The incumbent will maintain skills, knowledge an ability to the areas above.
- →He/she will ensure that the practice is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies and procedures, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, mandatory continuing education, and HIPPA policies.
- →Treatment is based on behavioral science theories and medical science and is elevated in corroboration with the supervising physician.
- →Communicates with, consults, and works cooperatively with other VAMC disciplines to provide comprehensive client care.
- →Consults with clients and their families through client/family education, training and advising them in the nature of their disability or disease, in home programs, post hospital adjustment and community resources Makes recommendations for adaptation of architectural barriers when indicated.
- →Fabricates adaptive and orthotic devices that are not commercially available and must be developed or modified to meet needs of individual clients.
- →Independently solves problems related to occupational therapy, adapting, and modifying treatment plans, activities, and procedures as indicated by patient status.
- →Continuously re-evaluates patient's performance and appropriately modifies treatment as indicated by patient status.
- →Administrative: The OT will carry an appropriate daily patient Caseload and/or number of group activities consistent with VA and American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) suggested guidelines.
- →Participates in and contributes in HBPC interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and in service training.
- →Compiles statistical data to document program effectiveness, therapist caseload, utilization of time, and cost effectiveness.
- →Follows prescribed infection control and safety procedures.
- →Organizes and captures workload, allowing adequate time for patient treatments, documentation.
