About the Role
The NA / Transporter is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient movement of veterans throughout the medical center to support hospital throughput, diagnostic, therapeutic, and treatment services.
What You'll Do
- →The NA / Transporter is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient movement of veterans throughout the medical center to support diagnostic, therapeutic, and treatment services.
- →Duties include transporting veterans via wheelchair, stretcher, bed, or ambulatory escort while ensuring correct patient identification, proper positioning, and use of safety devices in accordance with VHA policy.
- →The Transporter observes veterans for signs of distress or change in condition during transport and promptly reports concerns to nursing or clinical staff.
- →The role requires adherence to infection prevention and control standards, including hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, and cleaning and disinfecting transport equipment between uses.
- →The Transporter communicates effectively with interdisciplinary staff to coordinate patient flow, maintain schedules, and address delays or refusals, while consistently demonstrating professionalism, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse veteran population.
- →All duties are performed in compliance with VA policies, Joint Commission standards, and I-CARE values to ensure patient safety, dignity, and continuity of care.
- →The individual is learning to perform basic nursing duties under close supervision in a variety of health care settings.
- →Maintains a positive therapeutic relationship by displaying respect for human dignity with patients, families and/or significant others utilizing learned communication skills.
- →Begins to utilize observation skills for data collection, reporting and recording patient/resident observations.
- →Learning to perform aspects of nursing care to meet patient's needs for the following under close supervision and with direction/guidance from a preceptor: - Personal Hygiene - Physical comfort - Prevention of Skin Breakdown - Rehabilitative Aspects of Care Reports patient observations to the RN and/or other members of the treatment team.
- →Use proper safety practices.
- →Utilizes equipment and supplies according to procedures.
- →Completes all mandatory training within appropriate timelines.
- →Documents transport activities as required by local procedures.
Requirements
- ✓You must be a U.S.
- ✓Citizen to apply for this job.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
