What You'll Do
- →VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Duties include but are not limited to the following: The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) II Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) practices in the Mental Health (MH) Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission.
- →The MH CNS provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management.
- →This assignment is for Primary Care Mental Health integration.
- →Ideal applicants will have experience with providing integrated mental health care in primary care clinic setting through collaboration with primary care physicians and nurses.
- →Provides brief targeted time limited assessment and interventions including pharmacotherapy for veterans referred using evidence-based practice.
- →Provides assessments, evaluations, and care coordination of Veterans.
- →Crisis management as needed. - Brief intensive case management as needed.
- →Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management.
- →Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the team.
- →Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
- →Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. - Aides in health promotion, disease prevention, and health education.
- →Initiates referrals/consults to specialty services, serving as a VA and community liaison.
- →Provides education to patients and their families.
- →Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓English Language Proficiency.
- ✓In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
