About the Role
The Pain Management NP specializes in pain management and works in collaboration with facility pain point of contact. Incumbent practices at a high level of specialized knowledge, skill, and proficiency with prescriptive authority in provision of care.
What You'll Do
- →The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients.
- →Major duties and responsibilities of the position: Independently manages outpatient and inpatient Veterans with acute and chronic pain conditions.
- →Performs comprehensive evaluations; orders and interprets diagnostic studies; and develops and implements individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.
- →Prescribes and manages pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapeutic interventions for pain conditions.
- →Provides patient and family education and counseling regarding pain diagnoses, treatment options, and self-management strategies.
- →Collaborates with interdisciplinary, interdepartmental, and community resources to ensure coordinated, Veteran-centered care.
- →Leads and collaborates with Pain Clinic and interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, Veteran-centered care, including complex inpatient care coordination when indicated.
- →Completes timely, problem-oriented documentation reflecting independent clinical decision-making and accountability consistent with LIP designation.
- →Participates in performance improvement initiatives to enhance quality and safety of care within the Pain Clinic.
- →Maintains required clinical competencies and mandatory training; engages in ongoing professional development.
- →Provides inpatient pain pager coverage to ensure timely response to consults and continuity of care across medical and surgical services.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓English Language Proficiency.
- ✓In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
