The Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) practices in Neurology Service Headache Center of Excellence (HCoE) to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The NP provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management.
What You'll Do
- →A Career At VA Salt Lake City Health Care System Can Take You Places (youtube.com) We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our local VA Headache Center of Excellence as an integral member of a dedicated multidisciplinary team.
- →The ideal candidate will have an interest in evaluating and treating the full spectrum of headache disorders, including migraine, cluster headache, tension-type headache, post-traumatic headache, and other complex headache conditions.
- →This role will include opportunities to perform headache-focused procedures, including occipital nerve blocks, trigger point injections, and administration of botulinum toxin for the treatment of chronic migraine and related headache disorders.
- →No prior headache medicine or injection experience is required; the selected candidate will receive on-the-job training and mentorship from an experienced headache care team.
- →This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Nurse Practitioner to develop specialized expertise while helping expand access to high-quality, veteran-centered headache care.
- →Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice.
- →Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management.
- →Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
- →Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
- →Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
- →Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services.
- →Provides education to patients and their families.
- →Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓English Language Proficiency.
- ✓In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
