About the Role

The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVACHS) is seeking to add an experienced full-time cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) to our Cardiology Division. SAVACHS is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. The successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively in an academic medical environment, communicating effectively with students, residents, fellows and attending physicians, as the situation requires.

What You'll Do

  • The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a professional nurse with advanced clinical knowledge and competence to provide professional assessment, coordination, and planning of multiple health care services, emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the VA mission.
  • The NP is a licensed independent provider, holds clinical privileges, and practices in collaboration with other health care professionals to provide direct and indirect care.
  • Clinical core privileges of the Cardiology NP include the management, treatment, and ordering, performing, and interpreting labs, radiography, and other diagnostic tests for acute and chronic cardiac disorders of the adult population.
  • The NP will be responsible for providing care for cardiac patients in the outpatient setting, acting on behalf of the patients to assure that necessary clinical services are received and that progress is being made toward Cardiology team care goals.
  • The NP will be responsible for clinical documentation for outpatient services.
  • Additional Cardiology NP functions will include: Duties: The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) duties include enhancing our Veterans access to cardiology care through outpatient clinics.
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care and dedication to the mission of serving our Veterans are essential.
  • Educate patients and family members on appropriate disease­ modifying behavior.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement in the Cardiology division.
  • Maintain mandatory and clinical continuous education of the position and adhere to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice.
  • Independently manages a panel of cardiology patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice.
  • Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management.
  • Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • English Language Proficiency.
  • In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
