About the Role
The Atlanta VA Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Manager to fill the role in Nursing and Patient Care Services at the Austell VA Clinic. The position is assigned responsibility for providing comprehensive, high quality, cost effective healthcare services to patients who are rendered care at the Austell VA Clinic and through community providers.

- →General Description of Assigned Duties: Functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.
- →Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
- →Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
- →They demonstrate sound decision-making and judgment and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- →They are self-directed and influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and leading innovative process improvement initiatives.
- →Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care.
- →Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties: The Nurse Manager (NM) is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed.
- →Responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.
- →Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team.
- →Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.
- →The NM engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
- →Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
- →Equips staff with tools for competent care and promotes an environment of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
- →Promotes alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation.
- ✓A drug test is required for the position.
- ✓The position is subject to random drug testing.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
