About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (1 to 5 years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
What You'll Do
- →The Community Living Center (CLC-1C) Piedmont Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible and accountable for providing safe, evidence-based nursing care to residents with acute and chronic kidney disease, including those requiring on-site or off-site dialysis.
- →General Description of Assigned Duties: The nurse maintains responsibility for individual nursing practice and delegates tasks appropriately to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
- →Specific Renal-Care Responsibilities Include: Monitoring renal status, laboratory trends, and fluid balance, and promptly reporting significant changes to the provider.
- →Coordinating dialysis schedules, transportation, treatment reports, and post-dialysis assessments to ensure continuity of care.
- →Performing focused renal assessments, including monitoring for signs of volume overload, electrolyte imbalance, uremia, access complications, or changes in functional status.
- →Evaluating and supporting adherence to renal-specific diet orders, fluid restrictions, and medication regimens.
- →Providing education to residents, families, and staff on kidney disease progression, dialysis expectations, symptom recognition, and self-management strategies.
- →Collaborating with nephrologists, CLC providers, dietitians, and social workers to update individualized care plans based on clinical changes or dialysis-related needs.
- →Ensuring accurate completion of renal-related MDS items and documentation to support regulatory compliance and care-planning requirements.
- →Monitoring vascular access sites for infection, patency, complications, and appropriate infection-control practices.
- →Supporting transitions of care by communicating renal needs, treatment summaries, and follow-up requirements when residents transfer between levels of care.
- →This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear and effective communication, and manual dexterity.
- →Work may involve extended periods of standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling.
- →Safe patient-handling equipment is available, though lifting and transferring may still be required.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
