About the Role

These nursing positions are located within the Clinical Center Nursing Department (CCND) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Clinical Center (CC), in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Clinical Center is a large research hospital and ambulatory care facility that is designated as Magnet with Distinction. This is a new graduate Registered Nurse GS-7 position leading to the full performance level of GS-12.

What You'll Do

  • The Nurse Resident, GS-7 focuses on direct care of patients participating in clinical research and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members to ensure accurate protocol implementation.
  • The Clinical Research Nurse Residency Program is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice to Transition Program.
  • This 12-month residency includes monthly educational sessions, a dedicated cohort program coordinator, and structured peer support.
  • Utilizes advanced critical thinking and nursing skills to assess, plan, perform, and evaluate nursing care for individual patients, their families and significant others, who are participants in biomedical research protocols.
  • Provides patient-focused nursing care within the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with team members to create and communicate a plan of care that balances clinical care needs with research needs and allows for safe and effective collection of clinical research data.
  • Exercises the full domain of practice for the specialty of clinical research nursing including providing clinical care to research participants, supporting protocol implementation, data collection, continuity of care, human subject's protection and dissemination of clinical research findings.
  • Accurately documents observations, identifies trends and important findings, and effectively communicates this information to the multidisciplinary research team and nursing colleagues.
  • Functions in the role of primary nurse, preceptor, charge nurse and protocol coordinator as needed.
