This position is in San Antonio, Texas, and part of the South Texas Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (STXVAHCS) Environmental Management Service (EMS). The primary purpose of this position is transporting EMS supplies and equipment, and laundry/linen to and from Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital and servicing various Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) that are part of the STVAHCS.
What You'll Do
- →Major Duties: Operate vehicles such as shuttle carts/golf carts, vans, pickup trucks, panel/box trucks, flatbed trucks, sedans, crew cab pickup trucks, and sports utility vehicles which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of up to 4500 kilograms (10,000 pounds).
- →Loading and unloading from vehicles to provide timely delivery of linen, supplies and equipment directly to users or to storage areas.
- →Secure cargo to prevent damage to contents during transport and ensures that the vehicle is not loaded beyond the maximum capacity.
- →Load and unload by hand but may use a handcart to transport items.
- →Vehicle transport includes laundry, linen and environmental management service supplies, and equipment, over Federal, State and Country roads in all traffic conditions, on specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules.
- →Duties may also involve assisting in areas like the environmental management service supply room and linen and laundry room to receive, store, and move EMS materials and equipment.
- →Position performs routine safety and maintenance checks on the vehicle to include, but not limited to, the addition of fuels or lubricants and the checking of tire pressure.
- →Maintains cleanliness and professional appearance of both the in and outside of the vehicle.
- →Completes all maintenance service records to document activities.
- →Using two-way radios (or other device) to maintain communications with dispatcher/supervisor on assignments and locations.
- →Possessing Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required for the position.
- →Performs other related duties as assigned.
- →DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
