This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Operations DC, Washington National Records Center. The incumbent operates a truck with a gross vehicle weight of over 22,000 pounds, to transport federal records and other cargo between Federal agencies and Congress. This may include occasionally operating a passenger vehicle such as a car or van and using equipment to load, unload and move cargo within a facility. All appropriate licenses are required.
What You'll Do
- →As a Motor Vehicle Operator, you will: Operate government vehicles to transport records, equipment, and materials between agency locations while ensuring the safe handling and security of all items, including classified and sensitive records.
- →Perform record operations support work related to reference requests, accessions, relocations, transshipments, refiles, interfiles, shelving and records disposition activities to support agency and customer service needs.
- →Load, unload, move and stage records and materials using proper material handling and safety procedures to prevent damage, loss, and misfiling of records.
- →Conduct routine vehicle inspections, identify maintenance concerns, and ensure assigned vehicles and equipment are operated safely and maintained in serviceable condition.
- →Work independently, and as part of a team, to complete daily assignments, meet operational deadlines and support records management operation across multiple functional areas.
Requirements

- ✓The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service.
- ✓One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

- ✓A probationary or trial period may be required.
- ✓Continued employment is contingent upon supervisory certification that continued employment will benefit the Federal Service; the certification will occur no less than 30 days before the end of the probationary/trial period.

- ✓Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
- ✓If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
- ✓Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form i-9.
- ✓Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
- ✓Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
- ✓Designated and/or Random Drug Testing may be required.
- ✓Must be able to lift containers of records weighing up to 50 pounds.
