About the Role
This is a Medical Technician, GS-0645-05 position located in Central Alabama Veterans Health Care Services in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Services. The primary purpose of this position is to perform blood collection procedures by venipuncture techniques and as the primary autopsy assistant.
What You'll Do
- →Duties included not limited to: Assist the medical technologist in a variety of diagnostic tests using procedures ranging from waived testing to moderately complex.
- →Test results support the diagnosis, care and treatment services provided by health care providers from various general medical and surgical specialties.
- →Process, receive and prepares specimens to be sent to outside reference laboratories.
- →Assures requests (CPRS or hardcopy and computer orders) and correct specimens are submitted with all required information.
- →Collecting, accessioning and distributing specimens to the appropriate section of the laboratory for analysis.
- →Accomplish all mortuary duties including receipt and release of the body, obtain the patient's clinical folder and obtain the autopsy permit in the absence of the secretary.
- →Assists the pathologist in the examination by performing technical procedures as directed, by providing the tools, equipment, when needed, by preparing the body both before and after autopsy by disposing of organs, tissues, etc., as directed.
- →Autopsy assistant perform full variety of autopsy procedures and examinations.
- →Work Schedule: Wednesday - Wednesday 7:00pm - 7:00am; including holidays and weekends Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
