The incumbent serves as a Medical Support Assistant (MSA) in Business Operations Service (BOS) at the Battle Creek Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, Battle Creek, MI. The incumbent may work in the Call Center, Urgent Care, or in an interdisciplinary care team within a primary care team or specialty clinic on an infrequent basis.
What You'll Do
- →Medical Support Assistants are responsible for a range of duties at the full performance level.
- →Medical Support Assistants (MSAs) interpret and verify provider orders following VHA national scheduling guidelines.
- →Schedule, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments and consults.
- →Monitor inpatient and outpatient appointments within assigned areas.
- →Verify and update patient demographics and insurance information.
- →Process emergency and non-emergency patient transfers to other VA or private hospitals.
- →Handle medication renewal requests.
- →Route patient symptom calls to appropriate clinical staff.
- →Manage basic eligibility, co-pay, and preauthorization processes for certain coverage programs (e.g., TRICARE, sharing agreements).
- →Provide administrative coverage in other service areas as needed.
