About the Role

The VAMC in Bath NY is seeking an Advanced Medical Support Assistant to join the Community Living Center. The Medical Support Assistant will function in a technical advisory capacity in the Community Living Center (CLC) and within Geriatrics & Extended Care Line, assist residents with questions, complaints and information relating to administrative resolution.

  • →The Medical Support Assistant will function in a technical advisory capacity in the Community Living Center (CLC) and within Geriatrics & Extended Care Line, assist residents with questions, complaints and information relating to administrative resolution.
  • →The Medical Support Assistant performs the clerical and assistant support, which encompasses a variety of different duties and responsibilities.
  • →The Medical Support Assistant performs clerical work in support of the care and treatment given to residents in the Community Living Center (CLC).
  • →Medical Support Assistant helps residents either in person or over the telephone.
  • →Receives and relay incoming and outgoing telephone messages to staff.
  • →Recognizes and refers urgent inquiries to professional staff for immediate actions.
  • →Receives and can direct residents and visitors' inquiries to the appropriate staff member for assistance.
  • →The Medical Support Assistant determines the general nature of inquiry and can independently respond to all administrative questions.
  • →The Medical Support Assistant also interfaces and collaborations with larger health care-system providers including VA and non-VA specialists, hospitals, diagnostic and treatment facilities, and community-based programs to set up appointments for residents to be seen.
  • →Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 07:30-16:00 Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
  • →When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
  • →Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
  • →Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
