The Medical Instrument Technician (MIT) Polysomnography Sleep Lab Coordinator serves as a member of the Respiratory Therapy Section of Specialty Care Service at the Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System. The Polysomnography subsection is responsible for providing the full range of services related to Sleep Lab testing in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
What You'll Do
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Polysomnography MIT independently performs the following under the general supervision of the Pulmonary Outpatient Clinics Supervisor in addition to all duties stated at the lower grade levels, MIT Polysomnography: Track preventative maintenance schedules for equipment and place work orders, as required.
- →Performs daytime sleep studies, whether it's a Diagnostic daytime study, a Split Study, a PAP Titration, a Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), or a Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT).
- →Prepares, calibrates, interfaces, and operates all equipment used in polysomnographic procedures to ensure functionality for upcoming scheduled sleep studies.
- →Recognize changes in PSG tracing and identify all stages of sleep to include scoring and analyzing sleep stages in clinical polysomnography recordings and overscore studies previously scored by lower grade Polysomnography MIT.
- →Provide therapy recommendations based on sleep study results.
- →Ensure compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements and maintain accreditation documentation.
- →Provide training to new employees.
- →Provide the most complex polysomnography technician services and independently score polysomnographic studies to include home sleep studies, in lab diagnostic and titration studies, and other studies such as Multiple Sleep Latency Testing and Maintenance of Wakefulness test.
- →Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Sleep Lab ensuring patients are scheduled appropriately and given proper pre procedure instructions.
- →Monitor supply levels and place orders as needed.
- →Evaluate new products and equipment and make recommendations.
- →Assist in developing policies and procedures related to Sleep Lab operation.
- →Ensures the Sleep Lab operation and policies are consistent with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) accreditation requirements.
- →Review scoring skills of junior polysomnographic technicians and oversees inter-scorer reliability assessments.
