The Medical Instrument Technician (EKG) position is within Cardiology Section of Nursing Service and located at the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center, Memphis, Tennessee, The MIT (EKG) performs diagnostic examinations or medical treatment procedures as part of the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The work involves operating or monitoring diagnostic and therapeutic medical instruments and equipment.
What You'll Do
- →The Medical Instrument Technician (EKG) ) work directly with providers and clinic profiles.
- →The incumbent is assigned to the Cardiology Section of Nursing Service and performs diagnostic examinations or medical treatment procedures as part of the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- →The duties include but not limited to: Utilize required patient identifiers prior to performing any examinations or procedures and ensure that correct data input is completed in all devices and within remote telemetry monitoring.
- →Operate and monitor electrocardiographic equipment to perform specialized examinations and studies involving exercise stress testing, ambulatory monitoring of arrhythmias, and indirect carotid pulse tracings on chronic patients.
- →Analyze electrocardiograph data and document their findings.
- →Report baseline and any changes to the assigned clinical staff.
- →Monitor tracings to identify arrhythmias and when gross abnormalities appear, when to repeat certain procedures, when to stop test procedures, and when to get the immediate attention of a physician.
- →Evaluate test results to determine appropriate machine adjustments and use alternative techniques and procedures when established procedures do not accomplish acceptable results.
- →Edit and select an appropriate sample portion of the tracing for further interpretation by the physician.
- →Responsible for the application of extended-period cardiac monitoring equipment (such as Holter monitors and Zio patches) and will upload and manage the data from these event monitor devices, notifying the appropriate provider of critical findings.
- →Assist with cardiac stress tests, and ensure various reports and consults are received.
- →Ensure that proper inventory of electrocardiograph and telemetry supplies are available as provided by logistics.
- →Assist in ensuring that patients for whom remote telemetry monitoring has been ordered are being properly and timely monitored, having been appropriately assigned in their designation locations.
- →Print, analyze and interpret electrocardiograph data and present these tracings to the patients' assigned unit for validation from the direct care nursing staff.
