About the Role

The incumbent is a board-certified physician with advanced clinical experience as well as demonstrated administrative and leadership skills. The Medical Director of Community Care (CC) reports to the Chief of Community Care and serves as the clinical director is a key resource for the executive leadership team (ELT) for all aspects of Community Care, including policy development, practice standards, and compliance with VHA directives providing leadership and oversight.

What You'll Do

  • These areas may be supervised by other staff who ultimately report up to Community Care.
  • The incumbent ensures achievement of the implementation of community care goals of the organization, develops and implements short- and long-range plans for the Health Care System, and participates in top level decisions that impact functional areas under his/her oversight The incumbent must have: Knowledge of VA system and regulations.
  • Knowledge of patient care processes and systems.
  • Computer skills and ability to use a variety of software packages.
  • Documented ability to coordinate a broad continuum of programs.
  • Progressive management experience with strong administrative and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in providing interface with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in clinical decision-making and program oversight within complex care settings.
  • Commitment to the Mission and Vision of the Department of Veterans Affairs and Veterans Health Administration.
  • The incumbent may serve as a clinical practitioner in an area in which they are licensed to maintain licensure and clinical skills.
  • They may also stand in as an ad-hoc provider to place orders in situations that are identified as an urgent need to streamline specialty care consult processing.
  • The incumbent is expected to remain privileged and practicing in their specialty field.
  • The exact privileges and procedures for a provider will be approved by the Medical Executive Committee.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
  • Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
