About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (1 to 5 years) are determined by VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program after review of application. This position is located on 5A within Long Term Care (LTC)
What You'll Do
- →The Long-Term Care Licensed Practical Nurse serves as a member of the nursing team in any Community Living Center (CLC) house.
- →The nurse provides specialized care to residents with multiple disease processes on a regular and recurring basis.
- →The incumbent is expected to be vigilant in recognizing changes in residents' conditions, astute in assessing the need for intervention which may be of emergent nature requiring immediate attention.
- →Duties and responsibilities involve performing specialized practical nursing activities which require work experience and demonstrated skill sufficient to resolve a range of nursing problems.
- →Examples of specialized care in the Community Living Center house include, but are not limited to: Restorative Nursing Care, Dementia Care using a specific care model such as "Positive Approach", and Hospice/Palliative Care.
- →The nurse will perform nursing procedures appropriate to grade level approved by Nursing, which include but are not limited to: Bladder catheterizations/irrigations.
- →Enteral tube feedings including instillation of medications via enteral feeding tubes.
- →Oxygen therapy to resident using cannula or mask, tracheostomy.
- →Tracheostomy care including suctioning and cleaning, inner cannula changes and cuff deflation.
- →Complete ostomy care.
- →Removal and application of simple to complex dressings on all types of wounds along with wound irrigations.
- →Bowel and bladder programs and training.
- →Application and/or removal of braces, splints, and slings.
- →Post-mortem care.

- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
