About the Role

You will serve as a Legislative Affairs Specialist in the Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs (OLIA). As a Legislative Affairs Specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating with internal and external partners of OLIA, in support of the legislative agenda for the Agency, and its representation before State legislative bodies and elected officials.

What You'll Do

  • Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised.
  • Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
  • Responsible for all aspects of legislative liaison; legislative text review, analysis, and reporting, for all assigned program areas with NASA's Congressional Authorization and Appropriations Committees.
  • Represent NASA to State and local elected officials as assigned.
  • Participate in hearing strategy development with Agency staff and program officials, as well as Committee direction and concerns, and identifying Agency objectives for the hearing and issues to be addressed and/or resolved.
  • Recommend and prepare information to be presented by Agency and program staff officials in their meetings with Members and staff of Congressional Committees by gathering, researching, and analyzing material.
  • Provide analysis and advice on complex program issues in writing or orally.
  • Draft letters for senior NASA official's signature to Members of Congress, key Congressional staff members, or their constituents on a variety of issues related to assigned program areas.
  • Plan and execute outreach opportunities to inform congressional stakeholders (Member offices and Committee Staff) of upcoming NASA solicitations and competitions, high-level NASA priorities, and Agency engagement events.

  • If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs.
  • These education credentials must be deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
