This Lead Medical Support Assistant position is assigned to the Office of Community Care Service of the Eastern Colorado Health Care System. The purpose of this position is to provide face to face customer service regarding Community Care issues related to administrative and financial management support for medical services associated with care in the community.

What You'll Do

  • The Lead MSA plays an integral role in identifying and developing ways to resolve problems with ECHCS administrative and clinical staff on access, customer service, patient flow, and data validation issues.
  • Lead will: Review active/pending/scheduled Community Care consults in the appropriate OCC applications and ThirdParty Administrator portal for accuracy and disposition to assist veterans and providers with issues related to their consults.
  • Maintain effective communication with patient, interdisciplinary team, and outside providers, when necessary to process secure messages with patient and VA staff.
  • Explain OCC procedures to patient and their family members while in person and/or on the phone.
  • Participate in Community Care staff meetings.
  • Enter appropriate information into patient record.
  • Conduct administrative follow-up and problem solving for administrative issues.
  • Inform physicians about patients and appointments at other facilities.
  • Educate providers about shared patients (those who receive their care at multiple VAs or those who have both VA and care in the community).
  • Coordinate administrative services for veterans, family members, caregivers, general public, administrative, and clinical staff to ensure continuity of inpatient and outpatient care.
  • Guide patients through the hospital system process for care in the community, document complaints, and provide follow-up and relate resolutions to supervisor.
  • Interpret and apply a complex body of pertinent laws, regulations, directives, and policies that relate to the administration of VA Healthcare Benefits.
  • Interpret and communicate requirements of VHA scheduling directives and complete accurate scheduling responsibilities.
  • Create appointments with the patient's input, in person and by phone.
