The Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Generalist is assigned to the Department of Veterans Health Administration. This position serves as an advance technician for outpatient care settings such as; primary care, mental health, and specialty clinics providing direct patient care.. As an ICT Generalist the incumbent may serve in a medical center, community-based outpatient clinic, mobile medical unit or may have virtual/remote assignments.
What You'll Do
- →The incumbent performs ongoing patient care duties in an outpatient clinical setting.
- →ICTs may perform tasks as outlined in this Position Description (PD) and in accordance with local policies after documented completion of training and demonstration of appropriate skills and competency.
- →These tasks are not all inclusive and require the demonstration of appropriate training and documented competence prior to their performance.
- →Provide one-to-one observation and utilize Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) techniques to ensure safety.
- →Use therapeutic communication skills such as active listening, restating, and mirroring to complete approved questionnaires and clinical templates.
- →Maintain a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment while promoting patient dignity under the direction of licensed staff.
- →Assist outpatient clinical staff in caring for patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening conditions.
- →Prepare patients for medical evaluation, set up equipment, pass instruments, and support treatment during in-person or virtual visits.
- →Operate specialized medical equipment to obtain diagnostic and therapeutic results.
- →Collect, label, and prepare a wide range of specimens for laboratory processing.
- →Observe and monitor patient condition, immediately reporting changes to licensed personnel.
- →Recognize life-threatening conditions and respond according to established protocols; initiate CPR and use an AED when certified and appropriate.
- →Perform clinical duties including obtaining vital signs.
