About the Role

This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of a VA Medical Center. This position is under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor or designee. This position performs both janitorial and custodial services at the VA Medical Center located in Wimington, NC.

What You'll Do

  • This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division at the Wilmington VA Medical Center.
  • The employee works under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor or designated representative and is responsible for performing a full range of janitorial and custodial duties to support a clean, safe, and sanitary healthcare environment.
  • The Environmental Services (EVS) Technicians who maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families are essential to the patient care experience at the U.S.
  • Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
  • A VA healthcare career as an HKA-EVS Technician means working alongside other Veterans, who make up 85 percent of the housekeeping staff.
  • As an Environmental Services (EVS) Technician, you will perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping duties.
  • Veterans rely on these professionals' skills to keep patient areas clean and safe by addressing spills promptly, disposing of trash, installing light bulbs in hallways and rooms, and vacuuming and polishing floors.
  • Duties include cleaning wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas.
  • HKA-EVS Technicians sweep, mop, scrub (machine) floors, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture, empty waste baskets, clean light globes and Venetian blinds, wash walls, windows, and ceilings by climbing small ladders, refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers, and move furniture.
  • HKA-EVS Technicians carry out assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
  • Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
  • Work Schedule: 7:00 - 3:30 PM, 11:00 - 7:00 PM, 12:00 AM - 8:00 PM (24/7 Rotation Shifts) Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid/PD99909S Physical Requirements: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing.
  • The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
