About the Role

This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of a VA Medical Center. This position is under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor or designee. This position performs both janitorial and custodial services at the VA Medical Center located in Indianapolis Indiana. What You'll Do

  • The Housekeeping Aid (HKA) Supervisor - Environmental Services (EVS) Technicians who maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families are essential to the patient care experience at the U.S.
  • Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
  • A VA healthcare career as a HKA-EVS Technician means working alongside other Veterans, who make up 85 percent of the housekeeping staff.
  • As a HKA-EVS Technician Supervisor, The position is delegated responsibility for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis.
  • Non-routine duties require that the position reorganize work schedules efficiently to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner.
  • This position is required to coordinate work with supervisors of other services within the positions area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities.
  • The position is responsible for the cleaning of all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout Medical Center, Operating Rooms, and all other areas as assigned.
  • The position is responsible for assuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision.
  • The position plans daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities.
  • Performs floor maintenance, wall washing.
  • Cleans doors, doorframes, baseboard corners and edges, and stairwells.
  • Tasks are accomplished by sweeping, dust mopping, damp and wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, buffing, vacuuming and extracting carpets and runners, spot cleaning areas, and high and low dusting.
  • Periodically utilizes pressure washers and heavy industrial powered and battery operated equipment the above task.
  • Adjusts, cleans, and performs minor maintenance on this equipment and changes attachments for their proper use in achieving the best results.
