The position is located at the VA Long Beach Medical Center in the Environmental Management Service. The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing tasks associated with the EMS goals and objectives.
What You'll Do
- →Duties include but are not limited to: Incumbent is delegated responsibility for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis.
- →Supervises 10-20 Housekeeping Aids and 1-2 WL Leaders.
- →Non-routine duties require that the incumbent be able to reorganize work schedules efficiently in order that work is accomplished in a timely manner.
- →Incumbent is required to coordinate work with supervisors of other services within the incumbent's area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities.
- →Incumbent is also responsible for the cleaning of all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout Medical Center, Operating Rooms, and all other areas as assigned.
- →Incumbent is responsible for assuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision.
- →The incumbent plans daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities.
- →The incumbent trains staff and ensure that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of their customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel.
- →Incumbent provides on-the job training for subordinates as individual needs dictate.
- →Due to the constant change in the type of patients, proper on-the-job training is necessary to ensure the housekeeping duties are effectively accomplished.
- →Incumbent must give special direction to new employees in order to prepare them for individual assignments, procedures and safety policies.
- →Incumbent must schedule regular meetings with staff to make them aware of any new procedures or directives.
- →Incumbent must keep their supervisor informed as to the condition of staff, unusual occurrences or matters that should be brought to the attention of their supervisor.
- →Must keep subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; control the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit.
