About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center located at Fort Hood, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Positions may be filled in various departments within the medical center. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized Student Loan Repayment may be authorized Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service
What You'll Do
- →Perform blood collection procedures by venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques, selecting the phlebotomy site by taking into consideration the condition of the patient and site, age, and the type of test requested by the health care provider.
- →Provide phlebotomy training for new laboratory employees, as well as other hospital staff on venipuncture, capillary puncture, bleeding time, glucose tolerance testing, and blood culture collection.
- →Perform special procedures such as obtaining specimens for forensic or medicolegal purposes and process a variety of specific standardized tests in the areas of chemistry, microbiology and hematology.
- →Receive samples and specimens of tissue, blood, urine, stool, sputum, and other body fluids; check that specimens are properly labeled; and assure the proper request are submitted with all required information.
- →Process a wide variety of laboratory specimens for shipment to civilian or military reference laboratories, performing all required specimen preparations prior to storage and shipment (i.e., centrifugation, serum separation, freezing, etc.).
- →Perform clerical duties related to handling of laboratory specimens, e.g. conducting order entry and patient registration in reference lab information systems, receiving test results from reference laboratories, and checking for pending test results.
