The Health Technician (Optometry) position is primarily responsible for fitting/measuring eyewear to the patient's face, ordering eyeglasses and troubleshooting any issues that may arise throughout the process.
What You'll Do
- →The Health Technician (Optometry) positions are located at the Hershel "Woody" Williams VA Medical Center in Huntington, WV; and the South Charleston VA Clinic in South Charleston, WV.
- →Major Duties include, but not limited to: Obtain, document and record ophthalmic and medical information from patients in order to develop an accurate electronic progress note.
- →Obtain basic eye ancillary tests and images.
- →Assists with clerical support for the clinic including but not limited to phone calls to patients.
- →Triages patient complaints and troubleshoots/addresses patient concerns/needs within scope.
- →Determines characteristics of patient' present eyeglasses when requested.
- →Prepares and maintains the examination room to include proper equipment calibration and serves as technical expert in operation of imaging instruments used within the clinic.
- →Practices basic hygiene/infection control in patient care setting.
- →Accurately evaluates pupillary light responses and measures pupil size.
- →Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Work Schedule: Full-time; 8:00am-4:30pm.

- →When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
- →Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
- →Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
