Join the Indian Health Service as a Health Technician (Optometry) and support quality healthcare services for American Indian communities. Assist healthcare teams with providing technical and patient care support for optometry services by assisting with non-diagnostic clinical support activities, patient preparation, optical dispensing support, documentation, and service operations. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
What You'll Do
- →Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Health Technician Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Assists with patient preparation, intake, and support during optometry examinations and treatments.
- →Performs delegated non-diagnostic screening activities and documents patient information in electronic records.
- →Provides basic optical dispensing support, including eyewear measurements, adjustments, and product verification.
- →Maintains optometry equipment, instruments, supplies, and examination areas to ensure readiness and compliance with safety standards.
- →Coordinates appointments, assists with patient scheduling, and supports clinic operations.
- →Provides approved patient education on eye health, vision care, and eyewear use.
- →Supports outreach, training, inventory, and other administrative activities to ensure efficient service delivery.
Requirements
- ✓Selectee may be subject to a probationary period ESEP appointees typically serve a two year trial period U.S.
- ✓Citizenship is required Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
