The Health Technician works as a member of the CBOC Primary Care Service, under the guidance of the CBOC Nurse Manager. The CBOC Primary Care Service provides comprehensive outpatient services to eligible veterans. DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.205) for this occupation.
What You'll Do
- →Health Technician works as a member of the CBOC Primary Care Service, under the guidance of the CBOC Nurse Manager.
- →The CBOC Primary Care Service provides comprehensive outpatient services to eligible veterans.
- →The clinics provide comprehensive outpatient care to patients for preventative/routine care, urgent/chronic medical conditions, change in mental status and or functional decline.
- →The Health Technician assists medical and nursing staff through technical, specialized or support services for the diagnosing or treatment of patient illnesses or medical conditions.
- →The Health Technician will preferably have at least 2 years of experience with military training or private sector primary care experience.
- →The incumbent adheres to all Joint Commission and facility regulations, policies and procedures.
- →The health technician must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- →Duties include but are not limited to: Assists with patient check in, including obtaining and recording demographic data, vital signs, height, weight, and screening for chief complaint, brief history and measurements for specific age groups.
- →Performs 12 lead ECGs per order.
- →Performs selected treatments and procedures using aseptic technique when appropriate to assist such as measures oxygen levels through pulse oximetry and assisting nursing with dressings changes.
- →Prepares patient and treatment area and assists health care professionals with positioning and set up.
- →Collects, labels, and processes a variety of specimens.
- →Recognizes and responds to emergency situations by getting assistance, following clinical protocols, calling 911 and performing basic life support protocols (BLS credentialed) until assistance arrives.
- →May be required to travel to other Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) to support Primary Care clinics.
