Nurse Manager (NM) focus is on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction. This nurse brings principles and theory with limited application of critical thinking skills. The NM is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team.
What You'll Do
- →Demonstrates specialized knowledge and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.
- →Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
- →Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
- →Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and participating in innovative process improvement initiatives.
- →The Nurse Manager (NM) integrates knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex situations.
- →Validates understanding of the rationale for care processes and decisions.
- →Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care.
- →Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage competing priorities.
- →This nurse demonstrates competence in practice and decision-making, deliberate planning, and critical thinking skills.
- →The NM is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed.
- →The NM is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.
- →Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team.
- →Enhances care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.
- →The NM engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
