About the Role

The Department of Veterans Affairs, Indianapolis VA Medical Center, is seeking a motivated individual to join the team as a Food Service Worker. The selected candidate will serve as a WG-4 Food Service Worker within the Nutrition and Food Service department at the Indianapolis VAMC (583), a Level 1a complexity VHA facility. The incumbent will independently perform duties requiring proficiency in specialized food service procedures.

What You'll Do

  • Uses communication skills to converse with veteran's to accurately take menu orders via COTS Dietetic software System.
  • Work Schedule: Full-Time; 11:30 am - 8 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Food Service Worker/PD92929A Physical Requirements: The incumbent performs work requiring light to moderate physical effort.
  • They may be required to perform heavy work, such as scouring and scrubbing large size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies.
  • They are subject to continuous standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending.
  • They frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift or move objects weighing more than 40 pounds with the assistance of others and pushing loaded carts of trays and/or nourishments.
  • The work requires walking, standing, bending, lifting and carrying of light items, such as food trays, instruction materials, books, and manuals.
  • Functions may require long periods of sitting and moving about in an office environment, including repetitive motion activities of the hands and fingers for extensive keyboard and computer mouse use, and office tasks such as answering and holding a telephone phone, and writing.
  • The work may require walking indoors, outdoors or to and from other areas of the medical center.
  • It may be necessary to lift and/or push equipment.

Requirements
