About the Role

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment.

What You'll Do

  • This position is located in the Command Center, Command Division, Command and Coordination Bureau, Assistant Chief of Police for Uniformed Operations, United States Capitol Police (USCP).
  • The Emergency Operations Center oversees the response and coordination of deployment and mitigation of tactical activities for incidents that occur within the parameters of the Capitol Complex, which involves Congressional Members, staff, and the public in dispersed locations.
  • Major Duties and Responsibilities The incumbent exercises judgment and diplomacy in effectively managing crises characterized by rapidly changing information flows and uncertainty.
  • Provides rapid and timely recommendations and courses of action.
  • Independently executes timely action when warranted during urgent circumstances.
  • Duties include area surveillance, video camera operations, creating and releasing messages, conducting inventories, performing system checks, gathering and validating factual information from other reporting persons, and sharing information with Department stakeholders.
  • Work also involves directing first responders to incidents, facilitating their expedient arrival and response.
  • Employee is responsible for advising the chain of command of any discrepancies in the response procedures.
  • Communicates all activity and detection data to the Watch Commander.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation is required.
  • Must complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Security Clearance Must successfully complete the Airspace Training Program and Proficiency Test There is no education substitution for experience in this series and/or grade.
