About the Role

The dental assistant will demonstrate ICARE Values when caring for our Veterans. The incumbent will handle confrontations and hostile reactions calmly, striving to diffuse the situation.

What You'll Do

  • Patient Care:and removable), endodontics (including endodontic surgery), periodontics (including periodontal surgery), and oral surgery (including implant placement).
  • The incumbent will assist the dentist as assigned and provide additional support to other assistants and co-workers during the workday.
  • The dental assistant utilizes the techniques of four-handed dentistry in the dental operatory and assists in the operating room following operating room sterile procedures when assigned to assist on a rotation with our part time Oral Surgeon.
  • Dental Imaging:Processes dental radiographs independently with good diagnostic quality and with proper alignment to dental anatomy.Evaluates and retakes dental radiographs when not of diagnostic quality.
  • Shows skill in operating and adjusting Planmeca and Scan-X Systems.0Demonstrates competency and working knowledge of MIPACS system with guidance from more experienced users and direct supervision.Images are characterized by diagnostic quality and proper orientation.
  • This is accomplished with guidance from more experienced dental assistants and administrative staff.
  • Participates in patient identification and time out procedures per the Joint Commission National Safety Goals.
  • The incumbent assists in monitoring the patient by noting vital signs.
  • As directed by the dentist, they will record the medical history, and chart during the exam and treatment planning appointments.
  • The incumbent must be knowledgeable and accurate in entering upcoming appointments in CERNERInformation Management:Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA with written and verbal information.Follows computer security regulations.
  • In the performance of official duties, the incumbent has regular access to printed and electronic files containing sensitive data which must be protected under the provisions of the HIPAA of 1996, Public Law 104-191 and the Department of Health and Human Services Privacy Rule, December 2000 concerning the patient's right to privacy and the confidentiality of all records relating to patient care.
  • Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
  • Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
