About the Role
The position is located in the Nutrition and Food Service at the Raymond G Murphy Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albuquerque, NM. The incumbent will perform a full range of cooking methods. Responsibilities include preparing entire meals and require the coordination of several items with different cooking times and characteristics under minimal supervision. Menu items including regular and special diet entrees, starches, vegetables, sauces or gravies, and dessert items.
What You'll Do
- →Disassembles and assembles component parts and accessories for cleaning.
- →Cleans, stores, and maintains all kitchen utensils, equipment and work areas practicing a "clean as you go" concept.
- →Achieves certification in food safety such as ServSafe and is able to apply knowledge of food safety, food temperatures, etc.
- →Work Schedule: Full-time, Sunday thru Saturday, Variable tours and days off.
- →Compressed/Flexible Schedule: This position not eligible for compressed schedule Position Description Title/PD#: Cook/PD99818S Physical Requirements: Subject to continuous standing, walking, frequent bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
- →Lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 lbs. unassisted.
- →Manipulates cumbersome and heavy objects, such as washing stainless steel mixing bowls, pushing heavy carts on caster, or operating heavy equipment.
- →Manual dexterity needed to safely operate equipment and to handle sharp knives and blades.
- →Hand-eye coordination and ability to concentrate and react quickly to serve food and operate equipment.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
