As a Congressional Liaison Specialist, you will conduct congressional liaison activities with the Congress on behalf of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Provide expert technical advice, guidance, and interpretation of immigration law and regulations, policies and procedures, judicial and administrative precedent decisions relating to USCIS.

What You'll Do

  • Serves as the District's primary legislative affairs lead supporting the District Director.
  • Directs and coordinates all congressional liaison activity within the USCIS District in accordance with the USCIS Office of Legislative Affairs Strategic Plan.
  • Maintains awareness of potential problems of a politically sensitive nature, areas of special or urgent congressional interest, and trends, and advise management on strategy to respond to congressional concerns.
  • Plans and conducts regular outreach efforts specifically tailored for the needs of local congressional staff in order to exchange information, and promote USCIS programs and initiatives.
  • Provides expert technical advise and assistance to Members of Congress and their staff in the analysis, interpretation and clarification of immigration issues and new and revised USCIS programs and initiatives.
  • Provides complex technical guidance and expertise on interpreting laws and regulations, and police and procedures on highly sensitive complex legislative, policy or individual casework matters.

Requirements

  • Citizen or U.S.
  • Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S.
  • Citizenship and Immigration Services.
  • This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S.
  • Federal or Military employee serving overseas.
  • Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a probationary period of 1 year.
  • EDUCATIONAL SUBSTITUTION: There is no educational substitution at this grade level.
