About the Role

The Chief, OT is responsible for the supervision, administrative management, and direction of the occupational therapy program in a rehabilitation service or equivalent service-level department which consists of three or more OTs or other multi-discipline staff. The incumbent provides supervision of key clinical and training programs, including the overall technical oversight of the OTs whom they administratively supervise.

What You'll Do

  • Major duties include, but are not limited to: Has full supervisory responsibility for the Occupational Therapy staff including work assignments, rotating staff to meet changing patient/clinic needs, approval and planning of leave, performance evaluations, recommending awards, advancements, and disciplinary action.
  • Coordinates and integrates the activities of Occupational Therapy with other services to insure the prompt and efficient delivery of services by the Occupational Therapy staff.
  • Continuously evaluates and reviews the delivery of Occupational Therapy services and takes appropriate action when patient treatment/program problems or needs are identified.
  • Serves as a consultant and resource for the Occupational Therapy staff and the Medical Center staff in the OT intervention and management of patients with complex and multiple medical problems.
  • Provides Occupational Therapy evaluation and treatments on a regular basis for a variety of VAMC patients.
  • Especially when areas where staffing is not adequate to meet the patient needs.
  • Serves as liaison to medical center staff and university affiliated staff as to programs and services that are available from Occupational Therapy and Recreation Therapy.
  • Monitors workload for on a departmental and therapist level to ensure patient and staff needs are being met.
  • Oversees the Infection Control program of Occupational Therapy clinic, CLC and CBOC.
  • Conducts training sessions on the policies and procedures for all Occupational Therapy employees and assures that all new Occupational Therapy employees have been oriented in this area when requested.
  • Maintains a clinical caseload including individual and/or group treatment at the Atlanta VAMC.
  • Exact nature of clinical responsibilities may vary depending on incumbent' s areas of expertise and service line needs.
  • Monitors staffing changes and makes recommendations to CO concerning the problems with recruitment and retention of Occupational Therapists, regionally.
  • Develops standards of practice and protocols for Occupational Therapy use of the Functional Independence Measurement System in Rehab Medicine for CLC.
