Chemist (Forensic Program Manager)

About the Role
This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Operational Support Division, Office of Forensic Sciences (SF), Laboratory Management and Operations Section (SFM) or Quality Assurance Section (SFQ) in Arlington, VA. This position(s) primary purpose is to provide leadership and guidance to DEA laboratories regarding all laboratory system program activities.
What You'll Do
- →As a your typical work assignments may include: Mastery of the chemical specialty area of forensic chemistry which enables the chemist to serve as a technical authority relative to DEA laboratory system programs.
- →Thorough understanding of management objectives, primarily gained through prior experience as a supervisory chemist in a field laboratory.
- →Knowledge and skill to plan, assist in implementation, coordinate with laboratory management, and evaluate long- and short-term laboratory system programs.
- →Ability to modify procedures to develop and plan projects that deal with critical and obscure problems in the program areas.
- →Knowledge of related disciplines such as analytical, organic and physical chemistry, statistics, and instrumentation.
- →Knowledge of Federal laws, agency regulations, and guidelines pertaining to forensic chemistry and le al and clandestine practices and uses.
- →Skill in evaluating and incorporating into agency guidelines and criteria the latest developments and changes in forensic chemistry.
- →Knowledge of management of operations activities in DEA laboratories and implementation of laboratory system policy and procedures.
- →Mastery of chemistry principles, synthesis routes, etc., is required to properly categorize drug/chemical substances (e.g., correctly correlate and group data sets), and identify and track precursor chemicals.
- →Knowledge of laboratory workflow is paramount to evaluating and recommending tools for lab modernization and automation, data acquisition, analytics, management, and laboratory workflow management.
